Reclaimed & Potable Water Irrigation Procedures

Residents may supplement their in ground irrigation system with a portable fan sprinkler or portable rotating sprinkler, however, when using potable (city drinking) water through a hose, you are required to comply with the City’s Water Restriction ordinance.

In the Sanctuary, Live Oak, Ekana Green, Waverlee Woods, Oviedo Forest, subdivisions, and commercial properties on C.R. 419, there are two underground water systems, one is the City of Oviedo Potable (Drinking) Water system and the other is the Alafaya Utilities Reuse / Reclaim water system. (Reuse and Reclaim are one in the same). It must be mentioned that these two systems can NEVER be interconnected; to do so is a violation of Federal, State, and local laws/regulations.

Reuse/Reclaim water is water that has been filtered from waste water that has come from your homes sewer pipe. Although it has been filtered and solids removed, it is not completely free of contaminants which could cause illness in a person. Interconnecting these systems may be very hazardous to your health, your neighbors, and possibly the City Water Distribution system.

IRRIGATION SCHEDULE

In order for these rules and guidelines to be effective, the homeowner needs to know the source of water for their irrigation system.

The Re-use/ Reclaim water provided by Alafaya Utilities is under their guidelines and rules for irrigating. Alafaya Utilities mailed a letter to all their Reuse/ Reclaim customers requesting they irrigate on different days depending on address.  (April 2006)

The Sanctuary: All odd number addresses and common areas: water on Sunday and Thursday. All even number addresses:  irrigate on Monday and Thursday.

Live Oak Reserve: All odd number addresses: water on Tuesday and Friday. All even number addresses: water on Wednesday and Saturday.

Waverlee Woods: All common areas, odd and even number addresses: water on Sunday and Wednesday.

Ekana Green: All common areas, odd and even number addresses: water on Monday and Friday.

Oviedo Forest and River Oaks Reserve: All common areas, odd and even number addresses: water on Tuesday and Saturday.

Commercial Properties on C.R. 419: All odd and even number addresses: water on Monday and Thursday.

In March 2006 SJRWMD Rescinded that order and implemented it with Rule 40C-2.042, F.A.C. which allows local governments by ordinance to enforce the year round two day a week watering rule, that applies to landscape irrigation regardless of whether the water comes from ground or surface water, from a private well or pump, or public utility. (all natural resources)

The City of Oviedo City Council passed Ordinance No. 1401 dated 07 May 2007, that replaced Ordinance No. 1221, dated 17 September 2002. This rule will also include reclaim water provided by the City of Oviedo. The following rules are Mandatory:

A. Odd or no numbered addresses may irrigate Wednesday and Saturday only.

B. Even numbered or no numbered addresses may irrigate Thursday and Sunday Only.

C. No watering may occur any day between the hours of 10:00 am and 4:00 pm.

D. All handheld hoses must be equipped with an automatic shutoff type nozzle.

E. General maintenance on the system is allowed anytime for 10 minutes per zone.

The City of Oviedo works around the clock to provide top quality water to every tap. We ask our customers to help us protect our water sources, which are the heart of our community, are way of life, and are children’s future.
