Temporary Sign Ordinance & Permit Application

Ordinance No. 1457 providing temporary signage opportunities for Oviedo businesses, residences and property owners goes before City Council for a 2nd reading and adoption on Monday, October 6, 2008.  The ordinance sunsets six (6) months after adoption.

Briefly, the ordinance will allow businesses to get a permit for a small freestanding sign of six (6) square feet or less per frontage, or a wall sign of one (1) square foot per tenant unit front foot for a period of seventeen (17) consecutive days with a maximum of one (1) time per quarter.  There are also height and setback requirements for these signs.  A City issued sticker must be affixed to each sign.

Permits for on-site temporary signs for businesses will be applied for and obtained through the Code Enforcement Division.  Code Enforcement will also issue the sticker and conduct the required field inspection.

Temporary Signs for residential open houses, garage sales, yard sales, estate sales, and other residential events in the various residential zoning districts will be permitted through the issuance of a special event permit.  Please contact the Planning Division at 407-971-5781 for a special event permit application.
