How to Avoid Local Scam's

The City of Oviedo Fire Rescue Department does not solicit donations from residents or business owners.  You may discover those persons who claim they are representing the City of Oviedo or the City of Oviedo Fire Rescue Department, in attempt to solicit donations from you for many different reasons.  Please recognize that these efforts are not sponsored or authorized by the City of Oviedo.

Any corrspondence from the City of Oviedo Fire Rescue Department employees would typically occur in person from a uniformed or person with an approved City ID Badge.  You are encouraged to contact our Administration Office at 407-971-5611 to verify the member.  As mentioned above, we do not solicit donations.  Any donations received from the community would be utilized solely for a specific charitable campaign or for our free smoke detector program and are completely voluntary and unsolicited.

Common illegal solicitations we have encountred in our area and surrounding areas include:

  • Donations for firefighters retirement/pension.
  • Fire service protection fee.
  • Painting of your numerical address on the curb for emergency response purposes.
  • Donations for the creation of fire safety education materials to be distributed to schools, day care centers, etc.

If you encounter any of the circumstances listed above or any other situation you feel is questionable, please contact the City of Oviedo Fire Rescue Department at 407-971-5611.  If you are able to capture any information from the caller (phone number, address, name, business name, vehicle tag, etc) that will assist us in our investigation in cooperation with Oviedo Law Enforcement.
