Jackson Heights Middle School Sidewalk Project

The Jackson Height Middle School "Safe Routes to School" Sidewalk Improvement Project project is currently in the construction phase and should be complete by early August.  The project was bid in September, 2011 and was awarded by City Council to Stage Door II who was the low bidder.

The project involves sidewalk improvements along several roadways in the Washington Heights and Johnson Hill area within the vicinity of Jackson Heights Middle School.  The project involves installation of approximately 11,940 feet of 5-foot sidewalks.  The improvements are targeted to improve walking conditions for students attending school as well as pedestrians that walk to bus stops located along Reed Avenue, Wilson and Harrison Streets and along CR419.  All proposed improvements are within a two mile radius of the school.

The project was designed by Inwood Consulting Engineers via Metroplan Orlando's Safe Routes to School Transportation Improvement funding of $75,000.  Construction funds of $636,972 are also provided by the same program via a Local Agency Program (LAP) Agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).  The project is identified in the City's 5-year Capital Improvement Program for construction during fiscal year 2011-12.
