The SR434/Central Avenue Streetscape/Sidewalk project was bid on September 18th with bids being received on October 18th. A construction contract was awarded to Central Florida Environmental on November 7, 2011 and the work is currently underway. The project includes various improvements to the Mitchell Hammock Road/SR434 intersection and installs sidewalks along the east side of SR434 from Mitchell Hammock Road to Clonts Avenue. Design was completed by Vanasse Hangen Brustline, Inc. (VHB). The project includes approximately 550 linear feet of 5-foot wide concrete sidewalk along the existing right-of-way on the east side of SR 434 (Central Avenue) from Clonts Avenue to Mitchell Hammock Road. Associated improvements include grading, driveway removal and replacement and sodding. In additon to sidewalks for pedestrian connectivity, the design will include hardscape improvements such as stamped asphalt pavement for pedestrian cross walks and hardscape amenities such as directional signs, benches, recycling /trash receptables, bicycle racks and two Lynx bus shelters. Associated improvements include asphalt millng ,signage, striping, and median landscaping.
Funding in the amount of $60,000 for design was provided by the Florida Department of Transporation (FDOT) through Metroplan Orlando's Enhancement Program, as submitted by the Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC). Funding for construction is via the same program approved by FDOT in the amount of $350,000.
