This is a list of the current and projected programs the Oviedo Police Department offers to the community. The programs are free to Oviedo's citizens and our goal is to partner with various community entities to provide for the future of our youth.

Community Service Program 

This program is currently provided to juveniles on probation in order to complete service projects to satisfy community service requirements.  Participants will be considered for this program based on referrals from Seminole County Juvenile Probation Officers.

Fire Setters

The Fire Setters program is a cooperative effort with the Oviedo Fire Dept. which focuses on the effects of arson.  The program was originally developed by the the Seminole County Fire Dept. to show the gruesome effects of failed arson attempts and explain the dynamics of fire.  The Oviedo Police Department is enhancing the  Law Enforcement aspect by adding a stronger emphasis on the consequences of being arrested and/or convicted for the crime of arson.   

The program is offered on a voluntary basis, however, in some instances where there is an arrest or a juvenile is part of a diversion program, the courts may mandate participation.

Youth Police Academy

The first academy class started the Fall Semester of 2007/2008 school year and was a huge success!  We plan to continue to offer this program to our youth and will begin the next academy class in January 2009.  There is an age requirement of 14-18 YOA. 

1. One (1) semester would account for the full 75 hours needed.  
2. The course would be separate from the Explorer Academy and be geared toward an academically high standard. 
3. It will provide a good overview of Law Enforcement and will be patterned after the Citizens Police Academy. 
4. Each academy class will complete community service projects which will include training.
