The City of Oviedo's Wastewater Collection/Lift Station system includes:

• approximately 70,000 linear feet of gravity sewer, ranging in diameter from six to 12 inches
• 500 manholes installed in the gravity system
• lift station mains with approximately 58,000 linear feet of pipe, ranging in size from two to 16 inches in daimater
• eight (8) alternative irrigation wells located throughout the City's service area that provide irrigation through a seperate distribution system to several residential areas

There are currently 21 wastewater lift station located throughout the City's service area.  The lift stations are all submersible-type facilites that range in capacity from 152 to 1,1000 gpm.  All of the lift station are duplex stations, with the exception of the master lift station which is a triplex station.  All of the lift stations are controlled utilizing float switches and all are monitored by the most current SCADA technology.

The City of Oviedo's wastewater system has approximatley seven square miles of service area, which collects, pre-treats and through its force main transmission system pumps approximately 161,900,000 gallons of wastewater annually.  The wastewater system is comprised of collection and transmission force mains. Treatment of the City's wastewater is provided by Seminole County via the City of Orlando's Iron Bridge Wastewater Treatment Facility.  This is facilitated through bulk service agreements between Seminole County and the City of Oviedo.

What is a sewer lift station, and what should I do if the red light is flashing or the siren is going off?

A lift station is a pumping station whose main purpose is to lift wastewater from one level to a higher level, either to pass over some obstruction, or to accommodate changes in elevation in route to either another lift station , or to a wastewater treatment facility. If you see the red light flashing and/or hear the siren, you should immediately call the Utility Department at 407-971-5692 between 7:00 am and 3:30 pm. After 3:30 pm, nights and weekends call 407-971-5675. Alafay Utilities also manages some Oviedo sewer service.  You may call them at 800-272-1919.
